this was done during a vandalism spree that happened last night. now, some of these windows have been boarded up and also in the same area, some offices suffered similar damage. this actually started as an antiimperialist rally to mark the 11th anniversary of the u.s. war in afghanistan. a group of 200 met at frank ogawa plaza and marched through downtown. by 8:15 the group had dispersed. some demonstrators went on this vandalism spree tossing paint at city hall, breaking windows. they damaged about a half dozen other businesses including the "oakland tribune," three banks, a kaiser permanente office, and a.c. transit office, and the oakland scientific facility. there are no reports of arrests or injuries. but a very big mess to clean up in downtown oakland this morning. back to you guys. >> thank you. around 20 people were arrested for taking part in an unruly protest over the weekend in san francisco. me wearing black clothing allegedly blocked traffic -- people wearing black clothing allegedly blocked traffic and

vandalized businesses in the afternoon. officers were hit by flares and paint and rocks. police believe some were involved in similar activity in the mission district earlier. an "occupy" rally continues now in san jose. a small group has been camped out in front of san jose city hall since sunday afternoon. it's the first overnight protest since the "occupy" movement was evicted last year. members say they will stay there until noon today. president barack obama comes back to san francisco today for his final bay area appearance before next month's election. the president spending the night in southern california in l.a. after an appearance before a roomful of stars last night and he used their performances to make light of his own in last week's debate. here he is. >> they just perform flawlessly night after night, uhm, i can't always say the same. jennifer hudson, who took the stage before him. this morning president obama will visit the home of the farm labor leader cesar chavez being made a national monument. the president will arrive then at sfo around 1:40 in afternoon on air force one. he has a private fundraising dinner here in san francisco. then a public concert and rally at the bill graham civic auditorium. the president will spend the night in san francisco before taking off. on the gop side mitt romney will deliver a major foreign policy speech today. necessary virginia. romney is expected to say it's time for america to change course in the middle east and accused president obama of passive leadership around the world. >> when i'm president, i will take the care that it takes to rebuild our principles and restore the principles that made america so strong. >> romney is calling for the united states to take a more assertive role in syria, put conditions on aid to egypt and tighten sanctions on iran. a month to go before election

day, national polls showing the race at the white house is getting tighter. california is the most expensive place for gas in the country and the governor is taking action to drive down the cost. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in south san francisco right now where the average price, cate, of regular gas is well over 4.60 a gallon. >> reporter: that's right, michelle. actually it's the two stations nearby. one is at 4.79 a gallon the other across the street 4.99 for a gallon of regular. the governor is asking for the release of less expensive blends. the early release will bring up gas supplies 8 to 10%. experts say it could drop gas prices about 15 to 20 cents per gallon of regular but it could still take a week before we see any changes. according to the aaa, gas prices are at record highs in

san francisco. we're look at $4.73 for a gavel regular in san jose and oakland. it's $4.67. our state supplies were cut short after the chevron refinery fire in august and a power failure that knocked out an exxon refinery southern california. >> california runs a tight supply and demand balance because we use different blends of gas than the rest of the country so if anything goes wrong we can't get more parts of gas from other parts of country very easily. >> reporter: the winter blend is less environmentally friendly. it evaporates more quickly than summer gas. the early release shouldn't have too much impact on our air. to find the cheapest gas in your neighborhood, just go to cbssf.com/gas. then you can enter your zip code. live in south san francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >> thank you. some thieves found a way

around the rising gas prices. they stole nearly 1,000 gallons worth from the station in roseville near sacramento. the manager says they struck three separate times disabling the pump to fill a large tank in the back of a pickup truck when the station was closed. they also hit once when it was opened. so far no arrests have been made. i don't know if he received it yet but the chamber of commerce should send lawrence karnow a big thank you note for an unbelievable weekend. >> it was so nice. i dressed warm to watch the blue angels on saturday and it was beautiful. >> it was beautiful. the clouds broke and boy, it was perfect for flying weather and everything. we had all the festivities around the bay area. probably a similar day today although we'll likely see some clouds moving in late in the day and then maybe a chance of showers as we head into tonight and tomorrow. low off the coast doesn't look impressive and it isn't. but it's going to slowly slide toward the bay area throughout the day today and tonight. so we'll see a few clouds throughout the day. then tonight as those clouds get closer looks like there is a slight chance we could see

doing the landscaping. i can only imagine somebody noticing that pattern and wanting to take advantage of that. >> the victim's children are using social media to help police with the investigation. so far they have 140,000 followers on facebook. and i disturbing find in east oakland. a decomposing body wrapped in cloth was found inside a car last night near ritchie and olive streets next to the aurora viejo recreation center there in the eastmont neighborhood. the body appears to have been there for some time and investigators aren't sure whether this might be a homicide. there is a news conference in san francisco this morning to talk about penalties from the san bruno pipeline explosion. san mateo assemblyman jerry hill and san bruno mayor jim ruane were upset about the state public utilities commission asking to suspend hearings over pg&e's penalties and pipeline upgrade costs for a month. saint andrew catholic church in daly city plans to

have grief counselors available after a 6-year-old girl was killed in a church parking lot saturday morning. danielle from daly city was one of three people hit by a minivan in the parking lot. she died at the hospital. daly city police are investigating the death. the san francisco board of supervisors will decide tomorrow if suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi will keep his job. he was charged with official misconduct and and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic abuse case. it will take a "yes" vote by 9 of 11 supervisors to remove him. the 39th annual safeway world championship pumpkin weigh-off is this morning in half moon bay vying for the world's record and a $25,000 prize for the world's first one ton pumpkin. we'll give you a live look coming up at 6:00. >> it would take a crane to get that baby in there. an action packed weekend of events in the bay area is over.

[ sound of jets ] and there was a big roar overhead this weekend during the fleet week. yesterday afternoon, the blue angels soared through the sky in their aerial display wrapping up the final day as event. thousands came out to see the blue and gold fighter jets

up in the area right around san bruno in the airport. it's eastbound 380 towards northbound 101 heading along the peninsula. elsewhere westbound 580 through the altamont pass. we have been watching these brake lights so a little slowing past some of the wind turbines towards livermore but not enough to impact your drive 15 minutes to the dublin interchange. if you are heading towards the dublin interchange, there is a live look closer toward the tassajara exit. things improve towards the dublin-pleasanton area and continue to move well past 680 all the way towards oakland it looks good. elsewhere down the carquinez bridge westbound 80 should be still a 18-minute drive time on westbound 80 from the carquinez bridge to the maze. this is one of our live sensors through the berkeley area and everything is quiet down past ashby avenue. now, if you are heading towards the bay bridge toll plaza, a live look at that. so far, so good. no metering lights at 5:16 this

morning. so it's an easy trip across the upper deck so far. all right. we have traffic and weather . traffic and weather together every 10 minutes so lawrence has a check on your monday forecast. clouds off the coast as low pressure continues to spin in our direction ever so slowly. but not before we sneak in a pretty nice monday outside. looks like clouds coastside and a few clouds inside the bay. otherwise, mostly clear skies in the interior valleys. you see the low off the coastline heading into the bay area a little later on. out the door temperatures cool inland in the 40s, 50s elsewhere. this afternoon 60s and mid-70s in the warmest parts of the bay area approaching the coastline still some leftover clouds there. then the clouds will be on the increase tonight into tomorrow. around the state should be a dry day. 70s and 80s into the central valley. about 74 degrees in yosemite and mostly sunny skies. 63 degrees in lake tahoe and 56 degrees into monterey bay. this low not impressive working

clouds moving in later tonight though a chance of rain is on the way. we'll talk more about that in a moment. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> it is a holiday and unfortunately we have more problems now in san bruno. word of a second accident reported in the same area. they have had to shut down the connector ramp between eastbound 380 and northbound 101. that ramp is closed. in san bruno, eastbound 380 to northbound 101 just north of sfo. elsewhere, heading through san jose, we have a slight location change with this accident. one lane is blocked. it is southbound 101. so it's leaving approaching yerba buena road multi-vehicle crash in the number 4 lane. through this area we are getting word that a stretch of pleasant hill road is closed from spring hill all the way towards deer hill road. there was an accident last night involving a car that struck a telephone pole. so we are hearing about 9:00 according to police on scene when they are going to be able to reopen those southbound

while tokyo's nikkei is closed for a holiday. investors are bracing for what's expected to be a disappointing round of quarterly earnings reports this week. first up alcoa a key component for the blue chips. on friday stocks finished mixed after a larger-than-expected drop in the unemployment rate to 7.8%. it is the first dip below 8% in nearly four years. the dow closed up 35 points while the nasdaq lost 13. the house intelligence committee is expected to release a report this morning that says two of china's leading technology firms pose a significant national security threat to the u.s. the investigation recommends american companies and the federal government should not do business with waway. there are reports of cyberattacks as well as from zte another company. both deny they are a security threat. and honda is recalling more than 250,000 vehicles due to a possible fire risk.

the recall involves the crv crossovers from the 2002 to 2006 model years. an electrical switch in the drivers side door could melt and cause a fire. the fire could start even when the ignition is off. honda says owners have reported four fires so far but no injuries or crashes linked with the problem. so if you have that car, get it to the dealer as soon as possible. they will fix it for free. >> frank has that car, ashley. >> you missed me by a year but i was listening for sure. >> so apparently it's easier to tip now at starbucks. >> reporter: yeah. you won't have to leave a dollar or two because the seattle-based coffee company is actually making an app for that. starbucks says it's adding a digital tip function to its mobile payment app. they say the new smartphone application will be out and ready for use next summer. i'm still waiting for the app that does your grocery shopping for you or the laundry or a little vacuuming. that would be good. >> you're going to be waiting a while. >> reporter: i think so. >> i would sign up for that.

delays just yet. flying across the country not too bad. houston 73 degrees. denver 73. 58 in chicago and a cool 58 with showers in new york. that area of low pressure off the coastline continuing to spin around here. it's just going to slowly meander toward the bay area over the next 24 hours. as it does we'll see increasing clouds especially later on tonight into tomorrow morning. that's when we expect at least a chance of a few showers. those clouds will gather and by late tonight early tomorrow morning maybe rain. doesn't look like a big deal but it could get the ground wet. today dry, 60s and 70s into the south bay, east bay temperatures up into the 70s there. and as you get inside the bay, you have those numbers running into the 60s and 70s in san leandro and before 9 in santa rosa. next couple of days a little unsettled into tuesday and possibly wednesday morning. then we dry things out and another storm drops in friday bringing in another chance of a couple of raindrops into the bay area. elizabeth that means you could get busy. >> it's already busy this morning. we are following a couple of

different incidents. for some folks it's a holiday so traffic patterns may be different than usual. let's look at the bay bridge toll plaza. we are seeing good sized delays in the cash lanes. and by a good size i mean for this time of the morning so it is stacked up looks like pushing towards the middle closer to the end of the lot but yeah the fastrak lanes are still doing fine if you are heading into san francisco. we'll let you know as soon as they turn those metering lights on and our delays continue to grow. in the meantime san mateo bridge traffic this is problem- free has been so far this morning. this is a live look at westbound 92, 14 minutes still that drive time out of hayward towards the high-rise and to see to see. so let's go to our maps. these are a couple of different incidents we're following with chp. they just reopened this ramp. we were following two separate collisions on the connector ramp to northbound 101 not impacting people heading towards sfo. slightly north of the airport on eastbound 380. that connector ramp is over. everything is off to the right-
